After a somewhat odd amount of time this winter with no snow, we woke up to this in our backyard this Massachusetts morning.
Crisp, and beautiful and although not enough for snowman building (much to the kids dismay), at least winter is off to it’s proper start in my opinion.
Now, one of the Sisters C has finally succumbed to the germs her darling rosebud kids keep bringing home from their respective schools. Snuffling and snorting through the day yesterday wanting nothing more than this
I mean do you see that plushness? Serious Heart Happy! But being the dutiful Mommy I am, I continued with my snuffling and snorting through the day (they’re worth it – pretty cute and sweet). One of my favorite artists, Susan Branch, has a blog I adore and on her blog a few days ago was her recipe for Chicken Stock from scratch (right down to the using of giblets – turned out to be a heck of a lot less squeamish about it than I thought I’d be) and Chicken Soup. Full of vitamins and yummy smells that permeate every square inch of our tiny Cape Cod home, this broth takes a full day to make, sits in the fridge overnight to get all the fat off the top in the morning. THEN you make the soup. Perfect thing, just want the Mommy-doctor ordered.
Miss Branch always gives you a taste of music to listen to while you read her daily insight. I’ve become quite taken with some of her samples, and set up a Pandora station a while back. So I threw that puppy on and went to work…
I mean REALLY… it smells so good in here REALLY, I may already be cured. But here’s where we’re at, and the lovely stock goes on simmering for another 6 hours. DELISH!
I’m a happy clam, and love the absolute heart happies of life.
I’ll check back and let you know just how much the family and I adored our delectable Chicken Soup tomorrow. Susan Branch, our family thanks you : )
